Photography Packages & Rates

There is only so much one may cover on a rate sheet, if this all looks too daunting get in touch with us and we'll talk through your questions and concerns.

I like simplicity, you hire me and you pay once. I take your pictures, process them, post them into an online album (password protected if desired) and can give them to you on disk. There is no sit down to look over print packages or additional charges for a disk of your images; you already have the disk and a print authorization.

The only prints we offer are at conventions and other events where we bring our full studio, and those are 4x6” prints for a buck apiece. We don’t try to pad the profit by offering expensive photo print bundles or ala carte print prices. We see no need to charge between $10-$50 for an 8×10″ print when you can order it yourself online, from a highly rated and reputable company, for around $3.

My experience is wide-ranging, from portraits, head shots, senior pictures, roaming group photo shoots, dances, parties and of course roaming photojournalist coverage of conventions, running convention photo rooms and we’ve photographed several traditional and even costume-themed weddings. This means, among other things, that we’re able to get a lot of pictures in a short time and we’re used to working with the nervous and camera shy models as well.

TL:DR We take pictures, not prints and expensive print bundles. You pay once and get your images on disk.

Creativity Is Fun

A series of pictures showing one model as two different character in each shot

Yes, that is the same model, on both sides of the table, in each shot. This is just the beginning of what can be done with photography. We also have the ability to take chroma key or "green screen" photographs.  Have an idea to add some creativity to a photo shoot? We want to hear about it!

Before and after of a green screen shot

Green Screen Studio Package

  • Green Screen is a process that places the model in front of the green screen background, which is electronically removed and a new background inserted. This can be a time consuming process but is well appreciated at events, particularly smaller events. The expense is greater due to the additional post-processing time for the final shots.
  • The client should warn their guests not to wear shades of green if they wish their pictures taken.
  • You must request the green screen in advance. The studio consists of backdrops, lights, and a computer with a secondary monitor to allow the client to see pictures as we take them.
  • The client is responsible for providing an (empty) interior room or space a minimum of 8’x8’ (for a smaller setup, no group shots) with power readily available. Bigger is better when it comes to space for green screen.
  • The studio will only be set up in one location per session/package.
  • At least a half-hour for set-up before the session and a half-hour take-down is required after for green screen studio work, depending upon your needs.
  • The client should either confirm the use of green screen studio equipment with the venue owner or refer them to us so that we can confirm all details and keep things as simple as possible for all.
Starting at $75 per hour, with a $50 set-up fee. larger parties may raise the base fee.
We also offer the option of printing photos with the green screen studio, which is a popular addition, in addition to the studio fee  4"x6" prints cost $2 each.

Basically, I process my shots to the following criteria:

  • Journalism style: also known as digital negatives, the image is resized without cropping, retouching or corrections. these images are “as taken” no editing is performed. Perfect for sharing on facebook.
  • Proof: only light and color corrected, as required, no other editing is performed. Perfect for sharing on facebook or printing as 4×6″ snapshots for a photo album.
  • Retouched: The image is cropped, ‘airbrushing’ minor blemishes and red-eye reduction (if needed), color and light correction and balancing. It is a minor and subtle process not meant to change the fundamental features of the model.

The differences between a journalism and proof image can be very subtle, while many photographers take pictures with the thought that they can correct as needed in Lightroom or Photoshop, I try to compose and adjust in camera so that my post-processing is minimal. My goal is for 75% of shots to be usable as proofs without any processing.

The 3 images below are an example of the process. The image to the left is “as shot” its a good picture, it was effected by the light of the day. There were wildfires in Southwest Idaho and there was a lot of smoke in the air, so colors were muted and the light has a silver cast to it. Not a big deal but it was also overcast and I was set to shoot a bit darker, I take shots in groups of 3 and as the shutter was doing its thing, the cloud moved and it got a lot brighter. So, the photojournalism shot is a perfectly good picture; but, the proof shows that it can be a more interesting picture with a little light and color correction. Finally, in the retouched image, I cropped it in a bit closer to feature the model more and adjusted hair and skin tones and did a bit of minor cosmetic adjusting as well.
